Nursing Updates
Updates are offered in a classroom setting to provide nurses of all areas of practice the opportunity for learning about nursing issues. The updates are designed to give nurses the chance to interact with professionals from other specialties such as pharmacy and imaging, while learning about new procedures, processes or issues that affect their role in the hospital.

Nursing Leadership Group:
Greenbrier Valley Medical Center nurses have a proud history of leadership in action through the work of the Nursing Leadership Group (NLG). NLG membership includes representatives from all specialty areas of the hospital and is open to all Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. The NLG Committee meets on a monthly basis and discusses issues or concerns that need to be reviewed by Administration or other committees within the hospital.

The NLG has strong management support. The Chief Nursing Officer represents the Administration Team and is usually present for all meetings. The NLG group is lead by the NLG chair, who is a senior member of the NLG committee. Regular visitors include hospital board members, the hospital CEO and members of CHS leadership.

The NLG is a vital part of hospital decision-making and creates innovative strategies to improve professional satisfaction and enhance patient care services. The NLG serves as a vital communication link between nursing, physician leadership and administration. The NLG has been instrumental in developing a culture of professionalism, service and community involvement within the entire GVMC family.

Recent NLG accomplishments:
* Spearheaded the development of a monthly employee newsletter
* Initiated a Recruitment and Retention Committee to improve staff retention and
   recruitment efforts
* Created the Staff Education Committee to enhance in-house opportunities for 
   professional development and continuing education.
